The Kelowna British Columbia
(Okanagan Mountain Park) Fire
TERRACE MOUNTAIN FIRE RAGES ON AUGUST 1ST 2009
Below is an infrared video library of the forest fires that interfaced with several communities in the Central Okanagan in July & August of 2009. There are several time-lapsed infrared videos showing the impact of rain on a forest fire as well as time-lapses of fire growth. Infrared technology is used behind forest fires to look for hot spots once the fire is under control, unfortunately that leaves firefighters blind at the front of the fire. These videos are very basic information, there is much more information available.
2003 OKANAGAN PARK FIRE & KELOWNA INTERFACE FIRE
In 2003, British Columbia had a 50 million dollar budget for fighting forest fires and the direct as well as indirect costs were in the billions. This doesn't discuss the loss of animal life as forest fires raged throughout the province.
The was a public inquiry into the government's handling of the fire season in the fall of 2003. I presented for the inquiry in Kelowna on the facts the government fought the fires blind for millions of dollars a day while we had unprecedented sight through the smoke. Unfortunately, my presentation was edited out of the public inquiry because the Premier's Office stated it was an inquiry entirely based on audio and they weren't accepting images. The feed was lost during my presentation and the audio was lost so the Premier's Office edited me out of the inquiry in its entirety. Take a look at the information deleted in 2003 and recommendations were made based on the edited inquiry so in 2009, we fought the fires blind while people ran for their lives.
